LEGO Needed in Toronto on Wednesday 6 august

On Wednesday 6 august I am delivering our leadership game at Agile 2008. This game uses a lot of LEGO.

We have two options: moving all my Lego to Toronto (and find people that can help transport it, as it seems that we might be having to much to take with 2 people.

Or find people in Toronto that could help us and lend their Lego for a day.

That is the list of Lego we used the last 4 years.

Toshiba: M700 perfection game

A few weeks ago I finally bought the M700 I was talking about in my older post.

Let’s perfect it:

I give it a 8 out of ten

What I like about it:

  • I like the form factor.
  • I like the size
  • I like the weight
  • I like the fingerprint reader
  • I like Vista
  • I like the possibility to turn on/off wifi by an physical switch
  • I like the possibility to turn of the sound with an physical turning wheel
  • I like the fact that turning on wirefull lan and turning of wireless lan does not break the connection of most online app’s.
  • I like reading on it
  • I like Toshiba Easy Guard
  • I like the 4gb memory
  • I like taking notes on it
  • I like that I can expand the paper when I need more space in between two things I wrote

To give it a 10:

  • The Fingerprint reader should recognize my fingers more.
  • The FingerPrint reader should be positioned at the top of the screen in Laptop mode
  • The laptop/vista should have an option to plug in the power and only start using it when at 10%
  • It would not have connections to the front of the laptop.
  • It would have an intern smartCard Reader next to the PCMCIA reader.
  • it should have a one button to turn of music
  • I don’t like the fact I have one reason less to work Topless

I want a Toshiba M-700, they don’t want to sell it to me…

I have been postponing to buy a new PC for a long time.

Last week my hard drive crashed, only a week after reinstalling my machine. I luckily I was able to clone my harddisk, the same night. Everything woks fine now, but it was the sign to start looking for a new machine.

After working with a super notebook, similar to this one, I’m ready for a ultra portable one.

I considered a MacBookPro, but I am still to much addicted to the Microsoft way of working

I still use my old laptop a lot at home. So I looked again at Toshiba. And yes they released a new Tablet. The M700.

It’s a great machine.

Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T7700 (2.40GHz, 4MB L2 cache, 800MHz FSB)

Windows Vista® Ultimate 32-Bit

4096MB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM (2048MBx2)

1GB Onboard Intel® Turbo Memory

Intel® Turbo Memory* improves the general system performance with faster read/write access times and reduced boot-up times, and increases the laptop power efficiency by moving frequently accessed data over to the flash memory from the hard drive.

12.1″ WXGA Backlit Display supporting digital pen with indoor/outdoor viewing (1280×800)

Active Digitizer with Pen and Touch Screen Input

Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 with 8MB-251MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory

120GB HDD (7200rpm, Serial-ATA)

DVD SuperMulti (+/-R double layer) drive

Bluetooth® Version 2.0 +EDR

Lithium Ion Battery (6-Cell, 4700mAh)

3 Year Standard Limited Warranty
(1-Year on Battery and AC Adapter)

Great machine, great configuration, great price.

==>Great problem
not available in this configuration in Belgium.

I tried asking Toshiba Belgium for more info, but they don’t want to help.

Basically they said they were not interested in me as a customer.

That would be fine if ToshibaDirect.com would also sell to people outside the US, but they don’t. ToshibaDirect is not interested in people outside the States.

They said it’s ok to buy it and send it to an American Friend. He can bring it to Belgium. But they don’t want to sell it to someone outside the USA.

So I have tow options:

Buy the Belgium one, and replace the harddrive with a faster one, replace the standard memory with enough memory so its workable, or ask American friends to bring the machine with them (and not being able to deduct the taxes)

Both expensive choices, maybe I should buy a Mac after all…

Update: I bought it anyway, and I wrote a perfection game about it

The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. Systeem-DLL-bestand user32.dll is verplaatst in het geheugen.

My favorite sales person, had another problem on his machine:

Or in English:

application_executable_name – Illegal System DLL Relocation
The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\Windows\System32\Hhctrl.ocx occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL.

Both User32.dll and or Hhctrl.ocx are from Microsoft. So the vendor they are talking about, is Microsoft.

After a little googling I found a solution on the Microsoft KB site. But it turns out to be not so simple.
I did not have time to try it out.
I am posting this for 2 reasons

  • 1 to find this info it back when I will need it
  • 2 I am also surprised by the message/ error itself. 2 MS files that get into conflict about memory?

When I was teaching VB6 courses, I warned people that all VB6 applications are standard using the same memory address, and that this re-location can slow things down. It was pretty easy to change that address, the big problem was to what new address. Because of that I know nobody that did this on a regular basis for all dll’s created in their company. I knew it was slowing things down, that it would actually crash that is new to me.
